For those of you that don’t know, my cousin (and roommate) Katie was recently diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer which has spread to her lymph nodes. Some of you have been wondering what you could do to help and/or show your support. Many of you sent flowers, cards, gifts, called, etc. All of which I know have been greatly appreciated.

Talking with her though, there is one clear thing weighing her down. She would never say it herself because she truly does not expect anything from anyone, but the truth of the matter is, what she’s going to really need is assistance with the medical bills. Yes, she has insurance, but we all know that doesn’t cover everything. I’m typically the one who grabs the mail, and even I’m starting to get overwhelmed by the number of bills that are coming in and I'm not the one that has to worry about trying to pay them. Not to mention those are just the ones to diagnose it, let alone what it will cost to treat it.

Long story short, obviously no one needs to give anything, but if you’re looking for something to send Katie to show your support, consider instead donating the money you would’ve spent here to help take care of the bills.

I was required to put in a goal. I have no idea exactly what the costs are at, but I do know that every little bit helps, and if somehow more is donated than needed, I will make sure it goes towards a charity to help people going through the same thing.
