Study abroad in Canada

Dear friends and family.

As many of you know already, I will be spending the next University semester studying in Canada (from January to June). I initially applied for this opportunity with the intentions of widening my horizons and gaining oversees experience in my field of interest, criminology. Carleton University, in Ottawa, is one of the best in Canada for my course - brilliant for my education, but less so for my bank account. Those of you who have been through University and College will have experienced the budget-heavy student lifestyle, and understand the stress of always trying to make ends meet. This amazing opportunity has considerably increased this monetary stress, but the life-long experience gained will be worth it, I am sure!

For your information, this is where the money will be spent:

Despite my consistent part-time work throughout the past couple of years, and the maintenance loan I receive, I am struggling to gather enough funds to pay for the on-campus accommodation offered and my travel to and from the country. To clarify, I was not made aware of quite how expensive this program would be, and it is only in the last stages of this application that these fees have been unveiled; after months of hard work, energy and money spent to get to this point, dropping out of the program isn't really an option.

So, this Christmas I am reaching out to you all (and Santa) to please help me make it to Canada by donating, even just a little bit would be deeply appreciated. This is so incredibly important to me and it would be a dream come true to be able to make it to Canada, and be able to research and study amongst some of the best in my field - it would be the most enriching opportunity, educationally and socially.

Chère famille et amis.

Comme beaucoup d'entre vous le savent déjà, je passerai le prochain semestre universitaire à étudier au Canada (de janvier à juin). J'ai initialement postulé pour cette opportunité dans le but d'élargir mes horizons et d'acquérir une expérience à l'étranger dans mon domaine d'intérêt, la criminologie. L'Université Carleton, à Ottawa, est l'une des meilleures au Canada pour mon cours - excellent pour mon éducation, mais moins pour mon compte en banque. Ceux d'entre vous qui ont fréquenté l'université et le collège auront connu le style de vie étudiant à budget serré et comprendront le stress de toujours essayer de joindre les deux bouts. Cette opportunité incroyable a considérablement augmenté ce stress financier, mais l'expérience de vie acquise en vaudra la peine, j'en suis sûr!

Malgré mon job à temps partiel au cours des dernières années et le prêt pour étudiant que je reçois, j’ai du mal à rassembler suffisamment de fonds nécessaires pour couvrir ce programme. Pour clarifier, je n’ai su que récemment le montant des frais pour participer à cet échange, et ce n’est qu’aux dernières étapes de cette candidature que ces coûts ont été dévoilés ; après des mois de travail acharné, d’énergie et d’argent dépensés pour en arriver là, abandonner le programme n’est vraiment pas une option.

Donc, ce Noël, je fais appel à vous tous (et au Père Noël) pour m’aider à me rendre au Canada en faisant un don, même un petit montant serait énormément apprécié. C’est tellement important pour moi et ce serait un rêve devenu réalité de pouvoir aller au Canada, et de pouvoir faire mes recherches et étudier parmi les meilleurs dans ce domaine - ce serait l’opportunité la plus enrichissante, tant sur le plan éducatif que social.
