Ok, so it hurts to say all this, but time to rally the troops…
Back story: My parents bought our house in 2000. My dad was a very independent person and didn’t want anyone involved in his finances. My mom actually never knew what he made; he just gave her a set amount and did what he needed/wanted with the rest. Since mom passed, we’ve been trying to figure out what was going on financially, but had no idea it was as bad as it was.
When dad started having all the physical issues, we started getting involved in his medical care. When we were told he had dementia, we started getting into his finances. That’s when we found out he paid the mortgage sporadically and basically never paid the taxes.
We got involved too late. We tried to buy the house, but the bank was not cooperating. In December, we thought the sale of the house was gonna work. In January, they declined the offer. We were evicted in February.
We have basically been homeless and moving around hotels and Airbnbs for the past few months, applying to almost every apartment we can (but now we have an eviction and renting is a challenge).
Right now, we are staying at Extended Stay America and have 2 rooms. It is costing us about $1500 a week. We have taken loans from 401k and drained every bit of savings and credit we ever had. A few friends and family have helped, and I appreciate them but know that their help has come to an end.
By ‘we’ our household is now myself, Rob, Bonnie, and my dad Dennis.
The first thing I would ask is that you please pray for us to find a place. Secondly, if you know of something, please let us know!!! Third, consider donating to our growing expenses :(
