Maggie's Medical Expenses

On the evening of September 18th, 2020, our friend, 17 year old Maggie Dugan was a passenger with a friend driving to the drivers house for a sleepover. On the intersection of 17 and 77 in Durham CT, they attempted to make a left onto Route 77 towards Guilford when they collided head on with a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both drivers were not injured but the Jeep collided with the passenger side of their vehicle and Maggie was struck. She was transported via Life Star to Yale New Haven Hospital.
She suffered many injuries in the crash including: A ruptured spleen, a broken arm, a cracked pelvic bone, bleeding into her brain, a brain injury, and bruising on her face and body. The extent of her brain injury is still unknown. She has opened her eyes when spoken to and moved her fingers a little when someone holds her hand. While these are positive signs of recovery, it will be a very long road. She had been put on a ventilator to aid with breathing and was put into a neck brace as a precaution as the doctors weren’t sure if either had been impacted in the crash.

She already has had a blood transfusion and has gone through surgery to suture her ruptured spleen and is still awaiting surgery to repair her cracked pelvic bone. After surgery, Maggie will need to endure physical therapy to aid in the healing of her pelvic bone.
Being a part of a large family with 4 other younger siblings, along with the urgent need to repair her pelvic bone, the funds for Maggie's recovery is needed as soon as possible. These funds will greatly increase the chance of Maggie having a full recovery from the accident.

With her 18th birthday being right around the corner (on October 4th), Maggie is hoping to continue her studies at Middlesex Community College in hopes of becoming an elementary school art teacher. Even with her anxiety, Maggie has always had a bubbly personality around friends and family and has never failed to make us laugh. She was gifted with a talent of art and especially loved to draw the human skull (so much that the art teachers had to to ban her from drawing them!) She had also been looking to get her drivers license soon, which will have to be postponed until further notice.
Any amount you find able to donate, even if it is a single dollar, will be a step closer to her improvement. It is our turn to help her and we pray for her full recovery!
