In 1998 my life was suddenly filled with light. My son came into this world with a beautiful spirit that filled our lives with joy. We did not know that as he grew, his joyful spirit would be challenged by mental illness and difficult life challenges.
I find myself in the uncomfortable situation of having to ask others for help as I urgently try to raise funds for my now 26 year old son who is in dire need of mental health treatment. He has been struggling for years and had attended several programs yet nothing seems to have made a real difference. My son is intelligent and kind but he simply cannot carry out everyday functions on his own right now. More than anything, we want him to have a break through that will help him climb out of his pit of despair.
Some time ago, my son found a place on his own that he felt would provide some much needed light. He was excited about the prospect of attending but did not bring it up due to lack of resources. When I received a call from the place that he was so eager to attend, an institution in Israel that is $78,000 for one year and has been strongly recommended by professionals for my son, I knew that I had to take the uncomfortable step of asking for financial help.
The program is based out of a kibbutz and takes an holistic approach and has an intensiveness that my son needs if there is any hope for him to get the help. Not only is there individual and group therapy but there is daily therapy and a strong therapeutic milieu amongst the group for the program and, for the first time in years, I feel like there is hope for my son.
Unfortunately, I have spent almost the entirety of my savings on various short term inpatient programs and therapies that have not worked. I wish I did not have to reach out and have never had to do so my entire life but now I need help to give my beautiful son a chance for mental health, happiness and to just get him on the road to actualize the amazing potential that he has…. We need a breakthrough and we are running out of time.
If you could find it in your heart to give, it would mean the world to my son, myself and his younger sisters. Thank you.
