Gloria's Recovery
Donation protected
On September 5th our mother and her childhood friend went on a once in a lifetime voyage to Ireland. It was our mother's first time leaving the country and they had been planning it for months. This was THE trip.
On September 11th at 6:40 pm, Ireland time, the two friends were involved in a head-on collision in Annascaul, County Kerry. They were immediately transported to County Kerry General Hospital, where Gloria went immediately into surgery for extensive internal injuries. Despite best efforts, her dear friend Susie Maher did not survive the impact.
Gloria is currently on breathing support in the Intensive Care Unit of County Kerry General Hospital. She withstood a 12 hour surgery. Due to the impact, she suffered a torn diaphragm, multiple fractured/broken ribs, punctures to her lungs, a ruptured spleen that was subsequently removed, a portion of her small intestine was removed and reattached, several broken bones, and she suffered some internal bleeding. She currently cannot breathe without some support, though she is being weaned off the ventilator with much success thus far.
We are hoping to raise funds for a medical flight and/or her medical costs associated with her care in Ireland as well as when she arrives back in the US.
