I woke up early November and had to go to the emergency room. I found out that I had a very serious clot and went under surgery to remove it. Two days later I went in for a biopsy and the mass I had disappeared, I was building an aneurysm in my stomach. The clot had come back, even worse. I underwent another surgery and threw pulmonary embolisms left and right. My vitals were unstable for hours and they weren’t sure if I was going to make it. And if I did if I would make it with both legs. I somehow pulled through. They did the surgery again the next day in several sections. It was then determined I had May Thurner syndrome. The only way I’d stop clotting is to fix the crushed iliac vein.

At this time I was transferred to another hospital where I’d hopefully get a stent. But I had to relearn how to walk. It has taken me a few months toget most of my independence back. Due to this I had to drop out of school for the year and lost so much money on an apartment I only lived in for 2months. My single mother has been by my side through all of it and hasn’t been able to work due to multiple appointments a week and the severity of my dependence on others.
3 months later and I finally got the surgery. I am experiencing extreme pain but hopefully it subsides soon. I am hoping to return to school in May to take a few courses so I can apply to Grand Valley’s nursing program in the fall so I’m not too far behind my grade. My mom was helping me with school, but since this has happened obviously I haven’t been able to work to pay my own rent, so my mom has been paying for it, leaving no money left for the next school year.

This experience has truly solidified my desire to be a nurse. I took a course in high school at Livonia Career Tech that showed me a lot of things about nursing that I absolutely loved. My mom and a lot of her friends are nurses, so I’ve heard all the amazing and horrid stories of nursing and love it. I can’t wait to get back to school!

I need any and all help, even if you can’t donate please share.

thank you,
Deanna
