Help Us Finish Flytrap Town - A Film About an Iconic Plant, a Vanishing Habitat, and the People Fighting to Protect Both.
Hi friends,
We’re making a documentary called 'Flytrap Town' - and we need your help to finish it.
This isn’t just a film about the legendary Venus flytrap. It’s a story about what happens when a species found nowhere else on earth - and the wild places it depends on - face extinction from unchecked development.
The Venus flytrap grows only in a small corner of southeastern North Carolina, where its native habitat is disappearing fast. Forests are cleared, wetlands drained, and concrete laid down where carnivorous plants once thrived.
At the center of this story is a local volunteer group called the Flytrap Champions - a passionate team of residents, scientists, and advocates fighting to save the last wild flytraps before it’s too late. Their work is urgent, inspiring, and deeply rooted in place.
Why We’re Raising Money:
We’ve already begun filming, but we need your support to:
Complete our final shoots in North Carolina.
Edit the film and craft a powerful sound design.
Share the finished documentary with audiences at festivals and community screenings.
We’re asking for small donations — even $10 or $20 can make a real difference. Every bit helps us tell this story with care and reach the people who need to see it.
Why This Story Matters:
The Venus flytrap is one of the most unique plants on the planet - and it’s disappearing in the wild.
This is a story of local people standing up for nature.
What’s happening in this small town mirrors challenges facing wild places everywhere.
