SHE WANTS TO FLY.
THEY SAY NO.
SHE FLIES ANYWAY.

“FLY GIRL” is a fun, energetic ride following a small town girl with big dreams, who eventually succeeds in her hero’s journey to become a Captain at a major airline, but of course, there is a lot of turbulence on that journey.

It’s fast, funny, raw and grounded in real events.

We have the script.
We have the team.
Now we’re ready for takeoff.

LOGLINE
In 1987, a fiery prairie girl battles societal limitations, stereotypes and institutional misogyny to become captain of a jumbo jet — risking love, career, and her life to shatter the cockpit ceiling.

THE STORY
Flygirl follows Alaska “Ally” Telbourne, a small-town dreamer determined to fly.
We ride along with Ally starting from flight school…
to dangerous bush flying …
to the cutthroat world of the major airlines…witnessing her journey.
Ally refuses to give up her dream - all the while facing outrageous sexism, near-fatal flying incidents, and the constant fight to be taken seriously.
It’s thrilling.
It’s funny.
It’s emotional.
And every major moment is inspired by real events.

Think Thelma & Louise meets Erin Brockovich meets Jerry Maguire — but with heavy metal at 35,000 feet.

We’re raising our first round of funding to:

• attach a director
• hire a casting director to attach a "name" (well known actor)
• secure locations
• package the film for investors and secure distribution

This is the stage that gets a movie made — and it’s where community makes all the difference.

If you love underdog stories that leave you cheering, (or if you love airplanes) jump onboard!

Help us launch Flygirl. Let’s get this plane in the air.

MEET THE FILM MAKER
I’m Teresa Riley — a former airline pilot turned writer/producer — and this story grew out of years spent in the cockpit and the many women I met along the way. I've done my best to tie some of these experiences together into one unforgettable character’s journey.
I spent 22 years as a commercial airline pilot flying jets — the B787, B777, B767, B737, A340, and DC-9s. Women made up barely 2% of the cockpit when I started. 30 years later, it's still a measly 4-5% female airline pilots, with wide body captains still only between 1-2%.
The path of any pilot is turbulent, but for females, the toughest turbulence wasn’t always in the sky.
The skepticism.
The misogyny.
The constant pressure to prove you deserved to be there.
People also seemed extremely curious and were constantly asking questions: “How did you become a pilot?”
“Were you scared?”
“What’s it like being a female pilot?” "Have you had any close calls?" "Are you a lesbian?"
I realized something — there’s never been a film that truly shows a pilots journey, let alone the female pilot's journey.
So I wrote it.
After nearly fifteen years and 25 rewrites, Flygirl was born.

Now we’re ready to make it.

WHY IT MATTERS

I believe we need inspiring stories about women, (based in realism) written by women. DEI is being used to twist perceptions and imply that women are not capable at thier jobs, and it has been highlighted in aviation recently in the media. Women's stories, perspectives and voices matter, have always mattered and matter now more than ever.

As female pilots, we stand on the shoulders of giants. This film is homage to the female pilots that came before, and encouragement to those who will come in the future.

My own goddaughter just earned her pilot’s license. I want her — and every young girl who looks up at the sky — to see what’s possible.
Because when you can see someone like you in the captain’s seat, everything changes.

FLYGIRL is also a fun, heartfelt and entertaining script for everyone. The script was a finalist for "best screenplay" in the "LA Women's Independent Film Festival" . People love the script. Grown men have told me they actually cried reading it. And they loved it.

What we need now is seed funding to launch into development.
In filmmaking, the first $100K is the hardest and most important. Once that foundation exists, larger investors and distributors take notice.
Your support will help us:
• Attach a recognizable actor
• Hire a casting director
• Secure locations
• Secure a reputable director
• Package the film for investors and distribution

And just as important —
It allows me, the writer and real-life pilot behind this story, to remain creatively involved so the authentic female voice doesn’t get lost.
