David Cheney is 93 years old. He served in the Navy in WWII, he then became a professional Land Surveyor for over 65 years, and a lifelong Wisconsinite. In fact it is difficult to drive anywhere with him in Dane County without him remarking, "I surveyed that!" He was an avid outdoorsman--loved to participate in deer hunting, canoeing, fishing, or just tromping around in the woods.
David suffered some health setbacks in recent years. After his wife's death in 2010 he continued to live independently, and eventually found a partner in Luella (Lue). They lived together happily in her Madison home for several years, and they took care of each other through many health challenges, including a serious injury to his arm after a fall on October 4th. Sadly his partner Lue suddenly passed on November 11 this leaves David without his life partner but also without his 24 hour caregiver.
David's son Aleck has offered to take over managing the hospice services and primary care he needs - but David lives 1/2 a country away in South Carolina. A 15 hour drive isn't feasible and given the travel restrictions due to the corona-virus it is simply not safe to put this WWII Veteran on a commercial flight full of masked strangers.
This is where YOU come in!!
We are on a mission to create a private honor flight for David and have been blessed to secure a pilot and private aircraft to fly him to his destination. We are asking for donations to cover the cost of the aircraft and pilot as soon as possible.
Help us get David safely to his son in South Carolina. He fought for our country 70 years ago... it is our turn to fight for him. 2020 has been a year full of heartbreaking events and social distance. We're told not to hug or shake hands and we can no longer gather with our loved ones or neighbors. But kindness can't be taken. Make this fundraiser one you choose to participate in. End 2020 filled with faith by helping us take flight and make a few everlasting memories.
