Florrie’s Great Ocean Marathon in aid of Epilepsy Society

I am running the great ocean road marathon in Australia in May in aid of Epilepsy Society.

Last April me and the rest of my family unfortunately lost of my dad. I was inspired by my mum to enter into the marathon, as she has a love for marathon and ultra running. This has been a great challenge for me as I have begun my training. However it more importantly has been a great way to deal with the grieving of my dad and has allowed me to develop such a love for running. So despite my dad not being the inspiration for running the marathon, I wanted to dedicate it to him as running as helped me massively. If he was still alive today he would think I’m just as crazy as my mum. I would to say a massive thank to my mum and dad for being such a good support throughout my life, they will be my motivation throughout my race.

Throughout part of my dad’s life, he suffered with epilepsy due to a brain tumour. So part of my brothers and my childhood was dealing with my dad having frequent seizures. My dad had always juggled different medications to try help him find something that would manage his epilepsy and is something he massively suffered with all throughout his life. Epilepsy society is a charity that focuses an extensive amount of its resources on the research into the treatment of epilepsy as well as into the care for individuals suffering with epilepsy. I can related deeply to the families and individuals that have had to cope and manage with the challenges of epilepsy. It therefore means a lot of me to run on behalf of the epilepsy society as I think the work they do and are doing is so vital.
