Florence's paralysation and rehabilitation
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Julie and I am fundraising to pay for medical costs for my beautiful basset hound Florence. Yesterday morning was just a normal morning in my home, my daughter took my 2 basset hounds for a walk as she usually does on a Saturday morning. Within 10 minutes she had returned home in tears. Whilst she was walking Florence she kept falling over and was unable to stand. I gave Florence some medication thinking it maybe a pulled muscle and hoping it would rectify itself. Within a couple of hours Florence was completely paralysed, unable to bare any weight at all. We rang the emergency vets who saw her straight away. After several tests they have predicted a slipped disc in her back causing complete paralysation. She needs to see a specialist in Wetherby for a MRI scan and surgery. We are insured for £4000 which will cover the cost of the scan hopefully but not the surgery which will be in excess of £5000. We have only recently gone through this with our other basset who is a rescue and had a similar issue only 5 months ago however not to this severity of paralysation. Flo is a big bundle of love, the softest, funniest and most gentle of dogs that you could ever have. We can't imagine our lives without her and she brings so much joy to our family. I am exploring all avenues financially to try and get her the medical help she desperately needs. I am hoping to raise anything I can to go towards her medical bills and give her the best chance of a happy life.
UPDATE
Since having surgery on the 11th June to repair a disc that was crushing Flo's spinal cord, Flo remains paralysed. What is important now and what will give Flo the best chance at regaining some of her mobility is rehabilitation. Again we are fighting a financial battle to get the treatment she desperately needs. Having sold my car, cancelled holidays and sold personal items to pay for her surgery, the financial implications continue. She is our girl, our big bundle of love and we will do our absolute best to get her what she needs. She requires laser/physio and hydrotherapy twice a week for a hour each session. The is costing nearly £200 a week. Just seems so unfair. But we will continue our fight for Flo to give her the very best chance we can. Again thank you for your generosity, I have been truly touched by the kindness shown to Flo by complete strangers x
