We are Flore Vegan: a plant based neighborhood restaurant in Silver Lake (Los Angeles) serving thoughtful, healthy food since 2007. We are fundraising in order to relocate our restaurant that will soon be without a home.
On December 10, 2019 we were handed a 30-day notice to vacate our restaurant
. This notice was how we learned that our building had sold to a developer that had no intention of renewing our lease. The new ownership has a vision of the building that does not include the Sunset Junction community or the small businesses at it’s heart.
Everyone sees the changes happening, but we don’t always understand the effects of disappearing small businesses. As the steady march of gentrification continues to flatten the soul of our neighborhood, we find ourselves the latest mom-and-pop under the heel. We refuse to let big-money interests close down our beloved family business and erase all of our hard work.
It was with a pocket full of ideals and a bank loan that I opened Flore. It was a big financial investment. Something I couldn’t repeat now raising three children.
For years I hardly left the restaurant, working seven days a week on the line and making sure every plate that left the kitchen was given my full attention. Since then, we have built a real family of loving and loyal employees. You know their faces and they know yours. It all matters.
We have been offered an opportunity to relocate to another Silver Lake restaurant space but it’s going to cost a lot. Much more than we have set aside for a rainy day. To be exact, $125,000.
We are facing this head on.
We need your help to relocate.
We are dedicated to upholding the values that our business and neighborhood were founded on.
We will continue to work with residents and businesses, finding ways to fight unchecked development.
We hope you will too.
SMALL BUSINESS = DIVERSITY = COMMUNITY
