Flora serves exclusively quality products and authentic dishes that sweetly tells the cultural history about the area where we are from, “Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park”, located between the hills of Lucania and the Mediterranean Sea, few miles away from Amalfi Coast.
While we walking by Park Slope looking for a nice spot for our dreams, in a sunny morning of May 2015, we felt very nice vibrations in this beautiful corner between 8th Avenue and 11th Street.
The place looked so abandoned and very ugly, and only “really visionary minds” could imagine to keep out something beautiful from that mess.
Flora opened more than a year ago and operating during this time with lots of difficulties.
In the beginning, frustrating and expensive wait for Landmark and Construction permits gave us an heavy slap to the business plan, but little by little and with lots of sacrifices we bring back on the right path our concept plans.
In November 2016 even if we were waiting for the full kitchen permits and wine and beer license release, we finally decided to open and operate as a “soft opening” with breakfast, brunch and a light lunch since we were sure that license and permits were behind the corner, but we were just dreamers: we received permits last January 2018, after “only” 18months.
During this first year of business we operated as a Cafè, supporting expenses as a full restaurant.
Our alien status and Visa issues have further complicated and crush the whole business with several breaks.
This turned us in an unexpected situation that prevented from continuing to work serenely. Our business plan did not account for these interruptions.
We have been very grateful for the warm welcome that we received from Park Slope Neighborhood and its all beautiful and friendly people. Our customers have been very loyal and supportive and we love being part of that community.
In these very harsh times we received tons of messages of affection from our customers, with lots of helping support because most of them don’t want that beautiful corner without our Italian Mood.
We are really touched by this kind of love.
While never thought about abandoning Flora, we continued to invest personal money in the business, to secure the lease and all the bills, continuing to work and improve the concept to restart stronger and better than before.
