Flor Perez Cervical Cancer Financial Assistance

Hello, my name is Deanna Diaz and I am starting this GoFundMe for my mother Flor Perez who is an Emporia, Kansas native. She is a mother of 5 biological children however, she has been like a mother to many other people in the community. She is very selfless and helps others when they need assistance. She always puts everyone else’s needs before her own. She was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. She had been abnormally bleeding for 2 years until she couldn’t handle the pain and bleeding anymore. She was uninsured and was scared of what the doctor would say because she had a feeling it was something serious. She went to the doctor and they found a large, inoperable, cancerous pelvic mass. She had been losing so much blood that she has needed several blood transfusions. She will need more before her treatments start as well. We are unsure of what stage the cancer is, but they believe she has stage 4 cervical cancer. She has been unable to get further scans and tests completed to fully diagnose the stage due to being uninsured. She also cannot start treatment as a result of this. The doctors at the KU Women’s Cancer Center said she will need radiation and chemotherapy, but if the cancer has spread to her chest then she will need more chemotherapy and less radiation to shrink the tumor. She will also need brachytherapy for 3-5 weeks after receiving radiation and chemotherapy for a minimum of 3 months. She has been in the process of applying for her green card for several years, so she might be allowed to get health insurance starting February 1st with a high premium to start cancer treatments. She has to pay out of pocket for any other tests she received before this and any other blood transfusions she will need before she starts treatment on February 1st. She will also need to move to the Kansas City area to be close to the KU Women’s Cancer Center due to receiving radiation 5 days a week. My brother Raul will need to move with her to Kansas City as she leaves behind her two youngest children in Emporia who attend high school. Therefore, this GoFundMe is to assist in medical expenses for previous hospital bills, any procedures needed before insurance is approved, high monthly insurance premium costs, copays, and travel and housing expenses for her and my brother who will need to care for her during treatment.

UPDATE: my mom has been confirmed to have stage 4 cervical cancer since it has spread to her bladder and possibly to her lungs as well as her neck and abdominal lymph nodes. They are going to treat her pelvis with radiation for 5 weeks along with one type of chemotherapy weekly to help the radiation work better. Then depending on how she reacts to treatment, she most likely will be getting an invasive brachytherapy in her pelvis which she will be hospitalized for to manage pain from the needles. She needs brachytherapy to further irradiate the tumor which may have been left behind. She will then receive more chemotherapy and immunotherapy and possibly more radiation on her lungs or lymph nodes if the cancer is still in those areas after chemotherapy and immunotherapy. She will be on a combination of 3-4 chemotherapies and immunotherapies most likely for a couple of months, but time depends on how she reacts to radiation. The doctors said there is still a chance for the cancer to be cured but the chance is very very small so they will try their best but if not they will try to increase her survival time as much as possible. My mom will start radiation and initial chemotherapy on January 24th and will be moving to the Kansas City area before then.
