Floods in Germany

Hi there, I'm sure you will have all heard about the recent horrible floods in Germany that cost loads of lives and took everything from whole families. A lot of people are still missing in the area and it is feared that some may still be found in flooded cars for example. My sister and her family live in the middle of the affected area. The good news is they are all alive! Their house was flooded in the basement and they have lost all the furniture and a lot of their belongings stored down there; however, even though they are very much emotionally affected, they consider themselves 'lucky' in comparison to a lot of other people in the area. My sister tells really horrible stories of families who have lost loved ones in the floods, and those who have lost whole houses or businesses or all of their belongings. Children, the elderly, disabled people, families... its horrendous and heartbreaking! This is not an area where floods are usually expected and therefore most people are not covered by any insurance. This means they are being left with nothing!!

Some lovely people in the UK have asked me in the past few days if there is anything they can do to help. Therefore I've made the decision to start this fundraising. It is the one thing I can do from here. The money will be donated to a great project called Aktion Weihnachtslicht run by a newspaper called General Anzeiger, which is supporting people in need in my sister's local area.
