Flooding relief for Abdellah El -Gourd & Family
Donation protected
I am Fatoumata Weston, widow of NEA Jazz Master Dr. Randy Weston, living in the heart of Brooklyn and I am creating this page to help a great friend of my late husband Mr. Abdellah El-Gourd.
Abdellah El Gourd is one of Morocco's greatest Gnawa musicians and cultural figures - a master of the Gnawa tradition. He has recorded with various jazz artists. He was a longtime partner of Randy Weston, since they met in 1967. In 1972, Randy Weston organized the 1st Tangier pan-African jazz festival. In 1992, they recorded the album "The Splendid Master Gnawa Musicians of Morocco", which was nominated for a Grammy. Abdellah and Randy took Gnawa culture around the world, from the Banlieues of Paris to the museums of America.

Recently Abdellah's home was flooded by torrential rains that struck Tangier. His home has been greatly damaged due to the floods from the severe rain such that he has had to move out of his home and make other living arrangements. Abdellah is unable to afford all the expenses that has arrived from the destruction of his home. He now has to pay additional rent expenses for 6 months while his home is being repaired.

We are hereby asking if you could please donate to help support Abdellah with rebuilding his home as soon as possible. Your generosity is greatly appreciated by Abdellah. We are asking for $8,000 for help with the repairs to his home and rental expenses of where he is staying during this time. We thank you for taking the time to view our page and contribute whatever you can.
