Flooded Family Cabin: Help Us Rebuild After Guadalupe Flood

Donation protected

The recent floods in Hunt, Texas, have severely damaged our family cabin—a place that has been in our family for three generations. Originally built by our grandparents in 1969, the cabin is a labor of love, a place for our family to be together, made by our own hands.

For 60 years, this cabin has been a place of joy, rest, and connection for the Mann/Libersat family. It’s where cousins would gather each year to swim in the Guadalupe River, share meals on the porch, and reconnect with one another and the land.

Now, we’re asking for help to repair what the floodwaters have damaged so this special place can be restored and passed on to the next generation. Any support—financial or simply spreading the word—means the world to our family.

Thank you for helping us preserve this piece of our history.

Our cabin is located upstream from Camp Mystic on Lake Marymeade, upriver from the River Inn. The first house in our bend of the river to get struck by floodwaters, the deck and basement took the brunt of the force. Built partially on concrete pillars, the structure, while damaged, is surprisingly in good shape. The water reached 18-24” inside. Happy to report none of the windows broke, including our grandfather’s stained glass windows. The cabin will need structural reinforcement and significant repairs, listed below:
  • Structural engineer: $2,500
  • Basement reinforcement: $5,000
  • Retaining wall: $10,000
  • Deck reconstruction: $7,000
  • Septic clean out: $5,000
  • New sheet rock, mud & trim: $5,000
  • Kitchen cabinets & appliances: $15,000
  • Bathroom: $10,000
  • Electrical: $1,000
  • Mini split replacement: $4,500

Funds will go towards building materials and labor. We spent the last week clearing everything out and removing walls and insulation to dry it out. We are so grateful to the many volunteers who have already helped us. Amid all the loss and devastation this flood has brought, it is uplifting to witness the humanity and generosity of our community.
