Flooded during COVID
I (Sam) have had the pleasure and the privilege of living in this adorable garden apartment since June of 2016. In that time I have made this place mine, by furnishing and filling it with love and care. In 2018, Sylvia made it a home, by moving in with me.
In those 4 years, we have had several almost-fires, we have locked ourselves out, had to replace appliances, and broken countless glasses. But never a flood. Until this Sunday’s Flash Flood.
The water started slowly creeping in from the back door, and then the front, and then eventually covering our entire apartment in about 3 inches of water across the floor.
Thankfully, the Lyndale Housemates came to the rescue with buckets, mops, towels, and sheer willpower to get all the water out. Due to this, many of our valuables were saved—but some were not. We are now in clean up mode, but that means we are also displaced for the time being.
To top it all off, we have limited resources due to COVID-19. Sylvia lost her job in March due to the shutdown, and I am employed as a school counselor—but will have no income over summer as I typically babysit/work at festivals selling art. These means funds are tight and we don’t have much to cover the cost of our losses. Our first option was filing under my renter's insurance. Unfortunately, flood damages are not covered.
This is why we are looking for your help. We debated asking because we both are extremely hardworking, and frankly, embarrassed to ask. We know how hard it is for EVERYONE right now. This is our last option. If you are willing and able, we would appreciate any amount of financial help!
Major Losses:
-box spring
-laptop
-WiFi router (limiting our work from home)
-clothes & shoes
-bedroom furniture
-living room furniture
-our dignity
Again, we appreciate and love all of you. Thank you for reading and considering helping out these two roommates of Logan Square.
