Pakistan Flood - School Children Need Your Support
Donation protected
Support children affected by the flooding in Pakistan.
In the worst flood in Pakistan's recent history, more than six weeks of torrential monsoon rains and flash flooding have resulted in one-third of the country is underwater. Over 1000 people have lost their lives, and millions are displaced.
The Canadian Association for Children's Education in Pakistan (CACEP) has been active for the last 12 years, providing educational opportunities to children, especially girls, in Pakistan. CACEP is partnering with the Haashar Association in Pakistan to support 150 flood-affected children (100 girls and 50 boys) living in poverty
to resume their schooling normally in Mingora, Swat Valley, Pakistan. CACEP will provide necessary items to children who have lost school supplies during this flood.
Relief activities immediately started in the affected areas; however, it will take a lot of time to resume a normal life. Families in poverty will face high inflation, loss of possessions, and lost educational opportunities for their children. Children from families in poverty and girls facing barriers to education are the most at risk of dropping out of school after the flooding.
School children have already gone through massive educational loss due to Covid-19. Now they have lost their school bags, stationery items, and other supplies during the heavy flooding. More than 60 schools had significant damage in the Swat Valley in Pakistan.
Funds will go directly to purchasing school bags, uniforms, and stationery locally in Pakistan to support the local market and provide supplies as quickly as possible. Our team is already on the ground conducting need assessments of families affected by the flood and providing needed support. All funds will be used by the CACEP field team (Staff and Volunteers) in collaboration with Haashar Association in Pakistan and the CACEP board and executives in Canada are regularly evaluating and monitoring the implementation of humanitarian relief.
