Rebuilding Hope for My Son, After Flood Devastation

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,

My name is Zatori Thompson. I’m a young single mom to my sweet 3-year-old son, whose birthday is coming up on July 21st. I never imagined I’d be writing something like this, but today I find myself humbly asking for help after a devastating flood destroyed our home.

Not long ago, my son and I experienced homelessness together. Getting this starter apartment felt like the fresh start we both deserved. It was more than just a roof over our heads. It was the safe space where my little boy could finally feel secure and happy. I had just finished making his dream Spider-Man room, and seeing his face light up every night meant everything to me.

Then the flood came. In just hours, everything we had built was gone. We lost all of our furniture, clothes, toys, and especially heartbreaking: all the photos and keepsakes from my son’s life so far, along with important documents like our social security cards, birth certificates, and my high school diploma. Explaining to my little boy that our home is gone again has been soul-breaking.

As a single mother, I’ve worked so hard to give my son stability and a sense of home, and losing that so close to his birthday is devastating. Now, we’re facing the overwhelming task of starting over from nothing.

I’m asking for help to secure safe housing, replace essential items like clothes, my son’s bed, and his beloved Spider-Man things, and to recover important documents. Even a small donation or simply sharing this page would mean the world to us and bring hope in a moment that feels hopeless.
