Flood relief funds for Duang's community in Nan, Thailand
Donation protected
Please help Duang help her community in her hometown of Nan, Thailand recover from an epic flood due to heavy rains from tropical storm Wipha--worst they have had in over 100 years.
On 23rd July 2025, the entire province of Nan was flooded. The total loss was estimated at AUD$400 million. Hundreds of home were lost and thousands of families lost everything. Duang was preparing to host two groups of cooking classes in August and September. She had to cancel her August classes and returned early to clean up her home where flood water was up to her neck (1.35 meters!!). She lost a substantial amount of items both big and small, but was better off than many.
Duang’s house is centrally located in the business section near two daily markets and a public primary school. As she has spent time in Nan over the last week, she has spoken directly with the local school of BanDon SriSerm Primary, where 1018 students, largely from working class families, come to study.
The flood level was so deep it nearly reached the second floor of the classrooms. The clean up has been arduous and long. Parents, neighbours and government have banded together to have the school ready for students to return soon. Many of the students have lost everything.
When Duang asked the teachers how best to help, they unanimously responded that individual students and their families need help the most as they have nothing left, many of them only have the clothes they wore when the floods arrived.
They say 2000 baht (AUD$100) per student would go a very long way to help with basic necessities and even enough to buy a basic charcoal stove and some pots for the family, including helping a student have basic clothing and uniform, backpack, notebooks and stationary. We are hoping to collect enough to help at least 50 students.
Please help donate any amount you can to help the children at BanDon SriSerm School have a new start. All of the funds contributed will go to the school/students. We are going to be presenting the money to them when our September group arrives on September 11th, so please have any donations in before September 4th.
Thank you so much for your consideration and generosity. Any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out.
