Flood Relief for the Hangar!

On Tuesday, October 26th, the Hangar building flooded during an extreme weather event. They need to raise $5,000 to replace damaged supplies and prepare for future heavy rains in the near term. The Hangar building is located in a floodplain, but with the overwhelming support from the community to fund upgrades and improvements over the years helped limit the damage during the last big rain.

As climate change makes flooding more frequent and more destructive in and around the theatre grounds, the Hangar Theatre will be working with the City of Ithaca, NYS Parks, and other local and federal entities to develop long term strategies for safeguarding the building and its grounds.

The 109 year-old Hangar building, once the Ithaca Municipal Airport, is the Hangar Theatre Company’s home and a year-round venue for a wide variety of performing artists and community events. Though they rent the building from the City of Ithaca, the Hangar Theatre is responsible for its upkeep.

The Hangar Theatre Company, going into their 47th season, produces exceptional works of theatre and fosters a dynamic learning environment with programs for local youth as well as rising theatre professionals. Theatre is an important service to the community and needs your financial support and advocacy, not only to stay “afloat,” but to preserve its building and programs over the long term.
