Flood Relief for Maureen "Mo" Heim & Family

On Sept 10th, during an unprecedented rain storm in the DC area, my friends Maureen “Mo” (McGrath) Heim, husband, Rich, & boys, Charlie, Joey &  Timmy, suffered a devastating flood to their home. Storm water run-off from approx 20-25 homes behind them ran through backyards and landed at their basement doors. The force of the water caused the French doors to break out of the frame, which caused 4-ft of water to rush into their basement. That caused 2 walls in the basement to collapse! Needless to say it was a very harrowing event. 

The aftermath is just as bad! Their entire basement was destroyed, including their furnace, hot water heater, washer/dryer, bathroom sink and toilet, their son’s bedroom, furniture, tables, lamps & electronics.  In addition to that, the basement is where they stored all of their belongings including most family photos dating back to her mother’s childhood scrapbook and father’s ancestry documents and pictures & wedding & baby photos, holiday decorations, clothes, and on and on. Because Mo & Rich do not live in a designated floodplain, they did not hold flood insurance, so nothing is covered. All of the expenses related to this devastating flood are falling on them personally. These expenses will include water remediation in their yard and a complete rebuild of the basement and replacing all of their systems and furniture.

Mo & Rich have given so much of their time to others — class parents for all kids dating back to Kindergarten, school event organizers & volunteers, team mom for football & sports teams, and the founding and running of Mo & friends’ beloved Ned Dolan Golf Tournament for 23 years. Rich has given much time to the Rock Creek Council of the Knights of Columbus in Bethesda as a volunteer and previous Grand Knight.
