Please help us support our wonderful coworker Lisa and her husband Kham. They were devastated by the flood that occurred in Milwaukee on August 9th. They lost their home and both of their cars were a total loss. Their renter's insurance did not provide any coverage. Any donations would be appreciated to help cover the cost of replacing their furniture, home essentials, electronics and their vehicles.
She shared her story below…
In the early hours of the morning, our family went through one of the most traumatic experiences of our lives. At around 2 AM, I received a call from my sister-in-law saying they were stuck on the road and wouldn’t be coming back to our house to sleep. After the call ended, I began hearing strange sounds — water, but inside the house.
When we looked around, the walls were dry, but the floors were covered in water. It was rising fast, and we had no idea where it was coming from — whether it was from outside or flooding up from the basement. Panic set in as we realized the basement was filling from the bottom up.
Seven of my nieces and nephews were sleeping over that night. My partner, Kham, and I rushed to wake all the kids and gather essential documents. Within minutes, the water was thigh-high and we began to smell gas. We knew we had to get out immediately.
Opening the door would’ve let in more water, so we escaped through a window. The water outside was chest-high for me and up to Kham’s belly. Kham climbed out first, and I stayed behind to pass the kids to him one by one so he could place them on top of the car roof to keep them safe. I was the last to get out.
I still get emotional thinking about it. We lost everything that was on the ground — clothes, furniture, electronics, essentials — but I’m so incredibly grateful that everyone made it out safely. That’s what matters most.
We’re now left picking up the pieces, starting from scratch. We’re asking for support to help us rebuild and recover. Any contribution, no matter the size, would mean the world to us. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing our story.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
