Flood Recovery for Linley

Hi everyone,

As you would have heard, Taree has been absolutely smashed in the latest weather event with possibly one of the worst floods in recorded history.

My mother-in-law Linley has been directly affected by this natural disaster, with her property on Dumaresq Island (Taree) being completely inundated. She did all she could to prepare her property and livestock for the flood, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.

On Tuesday morning, water had reached the highest bedroom of her house and we’ve been told she was stuck in almost chest deep water. She called emergency services to be rescued but was unsure of how long it would take for them to arrive. Reports suggest wait times were around 6 hours. Thankfully local legend Johnathon Tisdell came to her rescue with his boat. With just the cat, dog and her handbag, she jumped in the boat and was taken to safety. We are extremely grateful that she is now safe staying with her friends.

Not only has the flood been of catastrophic levels not seen before, but it’s the amount of time the river levels have stayed at ‘major flood level’. The water is very slowly beginning to drop, however with her entire property being indundated for soo long, it is likely that the damage is severe and extensive.

Though we are still in the response stage, we are already trying to figure out how on earth Linley can support her recovery journey with the gigantic clean up and repairs required for her property.

Linley has put her heart and soul in to her river-side haven over the past 20 years. Whether it was regenerative agriculture land management rotating her stock every single morning, growing flowers and delicious produce for friends and family, riding her beautiful horse Sunny, and caring for and hand rearing cattle and chickens. We think it’s all gone.
