Hi everyone, devastatingly my Nan’s house in Machans Beach has been completely damaged by the floods that followed Cyclone Jasper on 17 December 2023. Christmas time is hard enough for most people, but this flood and having no house and no belongings has made it even more tough.
I’ve set this up primarily to raise funds to buy her a new car, as hers was completely destroyed and as she had a disability, public transport isn’t an option.
My nan is the type of person who even when she has nothing, she would give the clothes off her back to someone who needed it. She is the last person to ask for help but in this devastating time anything will go a long way as she is on a pension and unfortunately no home and contents insurance.
She had to evacuate her house with nothing but her clothes on her back and her handbag and still hasn't been able to move back in. The clean up is still ongoing and in the meantime she is staying in emergency crisis accommodation.
95% of her belongings including her car, all white goods, clothes, sentimental items have been completely destroyed.
Since being evacuated my Nan has helped run the Community Hall where evacuated people have been living, cooking for everyone, been there for the whole community and even been interviewed by the Guardian Post and ABC, always putting everyone else first.

Anything you can spare in this extremely tough time would be so appreciated and would go a long way.
thank you!
