Flood Devastation in Amolatar, Uganda

Donation protected

In the midst of an extremely painful national shutdown due to COVID19, parts of Uganda have recently experienced devastating flooding. The result has been loss of life, homes, property, & livelihood especially in Agigdak subcounty, Amolatar district in northern Uganda . There truly are no words to convey the depths of  devastation this community is experiencing right now. Your help is needed!

The community of Agigdak is comprised of about 700 people currently displaced due to the extreme flooding that occurred earlier this month. This is the SAME community that received funds we sent for COVID19 food relief back in early April. MANY of these families are elderly-headed households with multiple children in each home. We have a relationship with this community through previous child trafficking rescue efforts done by Child Advocacy Africa/A Child's Voice in previous years. Most of these families are very vulnerable, and their children have been caught up in schemes in the past but later resettled back with their parents or grandparents. The current count of elderly people are 92 of the 700, and the majority of these people have lost EVERYTHING they own (including houses destroyed) and also all their gardens that were planted for harvest soon.

Right now, the situation is critical and everyone who is alive is living in a nearby primary school and a church. A neighboring community not as badly affected by flooding is sharing their cassava with this community, but so far THAT IS ALL the help they've received. The government has not and is not anticipated to send relief, as "it's too overwhelmed" due to COVID19.

Any amount of funds you have on your heart to donate would be greatly appreciated and stretched so, so far! The priority is for food as all they have is cassava from the neighbors. The community leaders actively involved in trying to get the word out for help are the local chairman, and priest from a nearby parish. Whatever funds are collected through this campaign will be sent directly to Uganda via mobile money (daily) and put to use immediately.

If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to Anna Kalmbacher (contact through the campaign button) or Freda Luzinda (+256754096666) who are coordinating. Thank you!
