On the morning of March 17th, my family and I experienced a catastrophic flooding in our home, when 5 to 6 feet of water entered the home. A home that was built less than a year ago in Embrun. This has caused extensive damages, which led to the house being condemned, leaving multiple families homeless, including my mother-in-law. Unfortunately, my home insurance has denied coverage for any of the damages, leaving me having to absorb all financial responsibilities relating to this disaster.
A few key facts:
⁃ The flooding was not due to any negligence on my part but rather due to errors during the construction process.
⁃ The builder, municipality and engineers involved in the planning and construction of this house have refused to take responsibility.
⁃ Although the house is condemned, the mortgage and property tax payments do not stop, leaving me having to pay for 2 mortgages along with all other expenses of life, including raising two young children.
After exhausting all potential avenues that I could think of, I am reaching out for help during an incredibly difficult time. I am asking for support in any way possible. Resources, assistance, help, or donations, I will take what I can. The next step to take is to pursue legal action which is very costly, or to repair the damages, including a broken concrete slab, replacing the furnace, hot water tank and HRV system along with all other renovations to make the space livable again.
I am doing everything I can, but I am afraid I won’t be able to keep up. It has been difficult to work while trying to contact lawyers and other resources everyday, as I try to figure out the next steps. Although I am trying to stay positive, this has been a very difficult situation to navigate, causing stress, uncertainty and a large financial burden. Any donation, big or small, or any resources from contractors would mean the world to me as I try to rebuild and find a path forward. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would be just as appreciated.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for any support you can offer.
