Flood Damage to Schweitzer Home
Donation protected
On Monday, June 29th, 2020 the Baldwin, Wi area was inundated with overnight storms with heavy rain totaling over 8"+, resulting in local flooding. Mike and Ericka woke up that morning to find that their yard was flooded, and the water was rising rapidly. By 5:30 am the water in the yard was up to Mike's waist and the basement was taking on water. They quickly packed up a few essentials and evacuated their home; grabbing their 2 children, 2 goats, clothes and left everything else behind. It's a miracle that they were able to get out of their driveway without too much of an issue, although Ericka's vehicle took on a lot of water while they were loading up and trying to evacuate.
Thank the lord above their house did not completely flood. Mike and Ericka purchased their home approximately 5 years ago with a small "creek" called the Rush River flowing through the back of the lot. Unfortunately, they were told that they were not in a flood plain therefore they did not purchase flood insurance.
At this point the extent of the damage is unknown. Their yard had over 4 feet of standing water, which penetrated the inside of their detached garage. Their unfinished basement also had 3.5-4 feet of standing water that housed the mechanicals for the home. The condition of furnace, hot water heater, well, washer, dryer, and sump pump are all unknown. They don’t know if water has gotten under the siding or into the main floor of their home. The damage in the garage is unbelievable, the mowers, 4 wheeler, dirt bike, Mike’s truck are all unknown at this point as well. On Wednesday Ericka's vehicle was towed to the local dealership after it quit running. Most everything affected are just material things and very few sentimental items were lost. However, with the looming unknown statuses of the "big things" like the house mechanicals, both Ericka and Mike's vehicles, they could use some extra help with the impending financial costs and strains that this could put on their family. It is possible that their furnace, water heater, washer, dryer, and sump pump will need to be replaced and the cost to do so is unknown at this point.
They have contacted a restoration company and are waiting on the word of whether or not they will have any coverage from their insurance company on the damage, if any.
Thank you to all who have shown support to them over the past few days and continue to provide support.
Although they have a hard time asking for it; if you have the means to help Mike & Ericka I know that they would appreciate it and be forever grateful.
Thank you!
