Flood Damage For Gracie Barra Vancouver, Canada

My name is Richard Riordan and I’m one of the hundreds of people who train at Gracie Barra Jiu Jitsu in Vancouver, Canada. One of the many who call GB Vancouver a second home.
On Tuesday, December 31, 2019 there was significant flooding and water damage at our gym. Inches of water covering the floor and underneath all the mats. The estimate to repair the damages is $40,000. And while insurance will help with some of this cost, it won’t cover it all.
This gofundme campaign is hoping to help with some of the rest of the costs. Our goal is to raise $8,000. So we’re reaching out to others who call Gracie Barra home, anywhere in the world, to lend a hand.
As you may know our head instructor, Rodrigo Carvalho, is the GB Director for Western Canada. After taking over the Vancouver location he has helped to grow the number of GB locations in the surrounding area to 15 with 30 black belts promoted under him. He has also initiated an inter-school Gracie Barra competition network, involving western Canadian and US Gracie Barra schools coming together to compete in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The reach of GB in this part of the country extends to hundreds of families and thousands of individuals.
Gracie Barra and Jiu Jitsu are a lot more than just sport or self defence. Starting with children and extending to adults of all ages, GB is a place where personal growth, self confidence and friendship form strong individuals and community.
And community means supporting all the people who you value in that community. And right now, Professor Rodrigo and our whole GB community needs some help from the people who value it.
