Floating Flower System to clean Miami Waterways

Building on the groundbreaking findings from my dissertation research, we are eager to advance the testing and validation of innovative floating flower systems. These systems not only add aesthetic value with lush flowers but also play a critical role in purifying local water bodies, which is increasingly vital due to the escalating impacts of climate change.

Why It Matters

Recent studies have demonstrated that pollution contributes to fish kills, seagrass die-offs, and coral reef degradation in our local South Florida ecosystems. Our solution? Cultivating commercial crops, such as flowers, on floating platforms. This approach not only helps clean the water but also generates revenue by selling the flowers grown. This revenue sustains the operation of these systems, fostering green jobs and sustainable restoration methods for the future.

Your Impact

The funds raised will be directed towards acquiring improved floating platforms designed to withstand pressures like invasive species. These enhanced platforms will include protective netting and be sturdy enough for safe human interaction, ensuring longevity and efficiency. All equipment purchased specifically through this campaign will remain under the nonprofit’s stewardship, used collaboratively with communities needing water quality solutions at minimal costs.
