FLM- Haiti Medical Mission Trip
Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,
I would like to share with you an exciting trip I will be involved in this winter. I will be part of a mission team that is going to Haiti come January 2019. Through the Christian organization, Functional Literacy Ministry of Haiti, I will be a member of the medical team that will be traveling to the mountain region south of Port-au-Prince.
The medical team will be running five day-clinics for the men, women and children in this impoverished area. For many who come to the clinic, this is their only opportunity to receive medical care. We will be seeing about 150 people each day. As a Registered Nurse for over a year now this experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. I dreamt of a mission like this while in nursing school, but put those dreams aside to focus on school and the task at hand, which was graduating and coming home to my husband and family.
With this holiday season approaching I am asking my family and friends if they would like to help support me on this medical mission. First, I am asking for your prayers. Before this trip was brought to my attention I was praying that God would lead me in a direction where doors would open for new opportunities since moving back into our home after a year away. This past year has been a time full of exponential growth in my faith and has allowed me to truly let go and say yes to where I feel pushed to go. My prayers were answered when I first read the email about this trip. Without hesitation I figured out ways I could make this work. I am so grateful for the support and love from Anthony as he didn't hesitate either when I told him my plans and ideas for this trip. His ready to do anything attitude has rubbed off on me these past six years. I also wouldn't be able to go without the support from my amazing coworkers on the Medical-Oncology floor either. Some coworkers took shifts for me, while my manager didn’t want me to miss an opportunity like this also. With that said I would appreciate your prayers that God would provide us a safe journey to Haiti, allowing us to help the sick and heal the hurting while finding joy in the little things that come our way throughout this experience.
For those of you that are able, I am also asking for your financial support in helping me fill my medical bag! I am hoping I can raise about $1,200. I will be paying my own way so your donations will go directly to help Functional Literacy Ministry with their costs to cover the medical supplies and pharmaceuticals. If you are able to help me in any way I am already so thankful.
If you would like to find out more about Functional Literacy of Haiti you can go online to www.flmhaiti.org. Their website goes into detail about their outreach to the Haitian people through their educational programs and Community House of David.
When I return I am excited to share my adventures with you!
Thank you,
Alyssa Sozio
