Flights Fights Back

Flights Restaurant is being sued by it's Mountain View landlord after Founder/CEO Alex Hult pleaded with the landlord for compromise and agreement. Alex Hult is taking a stand against the ruthless lawsuits filed by landlords during a global pandemic. COVID-19 affects us all and we look to our incredible community for support during this time. Please read Alex's letter below.

Dear community,

We are going through some very challenging times right now as COVID-19 has had an enormous impact on all of us.

Flights has four locations in the Bay Area and we’ve successfully worked with three of our landlords to find some common ground to get through this difficult time together. We felt their compassion, respect and sympathy and offered the same in return as we know this is a difficult time for them as well. We are grateful that three of the four Bay Area Flights restaurants have been able to re-open under the new restrictions and through partnering with our landlords.

Unfortunately, this was not the case at Flights in Mountain View, where our landlord decided to apply pressure and filed a lawsuit against us. This scare tactic has been banned by the local government (see link  https://www.sccgov.org/sites/osh/EvictionMoratorium/Pages/home.aspx) and is supposed to prevent landlords from forcing small businesses into bankruptcy. Our landlord served us the lawsuit paperwork over this past weekend and our Mountain View location continues to stay closed as of mid-March.

As the founder CEO of Flights, I am making it my mission to ensure this unjust and ruthless tactic will not be tolerated by us or other small businesses in the same situation. I will raise funds and hire the best lawyers so we can fight this in court. It's not right that, in the United States of America,  a business owner focused on the good of the community during an uncontrollable pandemic, now faces a lawsuit. I have put in hundreds of hours of time and effort to #FeedTheNeedBayArea where we were able to give away 12,000 meals by working with other local businesses and relying on the community’s generous donations. This is a time where we should come together and do more for one another, not a time to evoke fear of losing your business. The government shut us down so they need to work with landlords, insurance companies and mortgage companies to resolve this situation.

Small business owners cannot be the ones to carry this burden, and if that’s the case, it result in mass unemployment and bankruptcy. What will the Bay Area be like without all of the local businesses we love?

Please help me to raise awareness by sharing this or by leaving a donation for the court fees or come support our small businesses that are open in Campbell, Los Gatos and Burlingame. We appreciate our Flights family so much and we are grateful for any support you can offer.
