Flight to Canada for Ukrainian PhD Student

As individuals and, in our own capacities, the community of students, alumni, staff and faculty in the York/Ryerson Joint Graduate Program in Communication and Culture are fundraising to pay for one of our incoming PhD students to get themselves to Canada. This incoming PhD student is a brilliant artist, scholar and teacher who we are truly honoured to have joining our graduate program and community. They are also a displaced Ukrainian citizen who needs considerable support- beyond what scholarships can provide- in order to make this happen.

 

We are asking members of the ComCult community, other members of the Ryerson/X University and York University communities and anyone sympathetic to this situation to consider donating to this go-fund-me. Our objective is modest, but important: we hope to raise enough money to pay for a plane ticket for our Ukranian PhD student from Europe (likely Paris) to Toronto, in the summer of 2022, in time for them to start their PhD in Fall 2022.

 

All money raised through this effort will go directly to travel/transport expenses for this individual. If we are able to raise a sum greater than the cost of the airplane ticket, we will put the balance into a prestocard account (for use on Toronto-area public transit). Management and oversight of the funds raised will be conducted and reported back to this site by students and faculty.
