From Alicia Dewbury, Nov 12/19:
“Today has been a deeply tragic day.
First off Ben mom, Gail Dewbury passed this morning. We will write a more fitting tribute to her in the coming days. She had a difficult illness and she is no longer in pain. Ben will fly out to Canada as soon as possible. I am looking to fly to be with him for the funeral and return to the children who will remain here in Belize. With trying to spend moments with her over the last year we have used the entirety of our travel budget. If you would feel lead to help with some of the cost it would be a huge help. Our children are very sad....we started with sharing with the original 4 and will tell the others after school today. Avery was very close to her and has a tender heart so please pray for her especially over the coming days. We have many plans to juggle to make this happen. These would be my biggest prayer requests at this time.
Onto our second and most tragic part of the morning. We received distressing news (after hearing horrific screams) that a sweet foster baby was found dead in his bed. The baby who’s life is no longer here was sweet K. One of the twins to A. Their current foster parents are my friends. She is a young mother herself. They tried to do cpr all the way to the hospital. Her husband and children are all deeply effected. We are devastated. A can hardly breath. She is about to go into the police station to give her statement. This sweet teen has seen and experienced more loss and hard than one should ever need to carry. It is an honor to sit with this sweet child and her beautiful foster mom in their grief and yet it’s all so much. How do you walk away from the lifeless body of your child to go and wait for a social worker to take you to the police station. She was/is a good mom...beyond her age. We need prayers and comfort and peace and strength and hope. That is our prayer. Oh today I cried. And I am carrying a heavy grief. Thank you friends.”
Ben’s flight is expected to be ~$2500
A’s needs for a funeral are unknown, but a guess of a minimum $1500 has been given. We all know that if there are any unused funds from this fundraiser, the Dewbury’s will put them to only the best use.
