The holiday season is a time to reflect on the past year, to spend time with family and friends, and to remember all of the blessings we have received. More importantly it is a time of giving, and right now one of our dearest friends is in need of our friendship, love and support.
Judy Fleischman has been an unbelievable friend and inspiration to so many of us and now she needs us more than ever. Judy’s story began this summer when her husband Bill suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed on the left side of his body. Fortunatly Bill has been making improvements and continues to fight to regain functionality in his left side. Since that time Judy has been by his side willing him back to health, but unfortunatly that means Judy has had to take significant time away from work, and with the loss of Bill’s income the fight to stay ahead financially has been a struggle, yet we have not heard a single cry of help from this amazing woman. With her children by her side working to help her stay ahead she has pushed through this tough time, still managing to keep a smile on her face.
Bill’s heart attack in 2015 and his stroke in 2016 would have been enough to break even the strongest spirit, but still she continues to move forward for her family.
Then a month ago Judy learned that her father, who she has also been caring for was bleeding internally and Judy’s next medical hurdle began with doctors at the VA hospital working feverishly to determine what was causing the bleeding, only to find out he had an upper intestinal bleed that could not be treated here locally. So, with Bill in rehab, over the watchfull eye of her children, Judy made the journey to UCLA in California to be with her father as he received the treatmeant and surgery he needed to survive. Again with a smile on her face and energy in her voice she moves forward for her family.
Of course this should be enough, how could anyone survive more, but again God has put one more adventure in Judy’s path when two weeks ago while she was in California with her father, she received word that her mother in Puerto Rico was ill and had been taken to the emergency room, with what doctors identified as intestinal cancer. Although, Judy’s mom was released from the hospital, she is still in need of treatment. Judy will need to make the trip to Puerto Rico to be with her mom, but she is out of leave at work and will have to take leave without pay.
Judy has been through more than anyone of us could ever imagine with three of the most important people in her life dealing with major medical issues. I know we all have commitments as we prepare for the holiday but what better way to show the true meaning of this season than to give to someone that is so deserving. We have created this page to help Judy and her family through this difficult time, any amount will help this unbelievable family.
We all want to thank you for your generosity and willingness to help Judy.
