Flea is a 10 month old pitbull puppy who was found wandering in a Target parking lot in the east bay of California. Starving, you could see every single rib. Flea was brought to a local veterinary emergency room where his current foster mama works and she couldn't bear to see him brought to a shelter or put down. Flea spent the first four weeks in rescue recovering his nutrition status, being treated for various skin issues and ulcerations, recovered from an ear infection and learned the joys of being a dog. He was also neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and started on other preventative care. In the last week Flea has discovered toys, the treat aisle in the pet store and how to sunbathe at the park.
The road ahead for Flea involves two orthopedic surgical procedures to fix his knees. He suffers from grade 4 bilateral luxating patellas, which means his kneecaps are not in the alignment they should be. This causes him to walk splaylegged, kind of like a seal. With surgery and rehab his prognosis at a normal functioning gait is excellent. We want to make this happen for Flea.
This sweet boy, for all he has been through, has never met a stranger and wants nothing more than to sit in a lap.
Please consider making a contribution towards Flea's Knees, or sharing his story. The total cost of his procedures will be somewhere over $8,000.
Thank you.
