Many years ago at Emmaus in St Gaudens in France, I met a young Pakistani man named Adnan, who quickly became a close friend. Over the years, many of you who’ve visited me have had the pleasure of meeting him as well.
In November 2023, I travelled to Pakistan for the first time, and Adnan’s family kindly invited me to their home. What was meant to be a one-night stay turned into six unforgettable nights. I had the privilege of living with the Pashtun people and experiencing their beautiful culture and traditions firsthand. It was a truly eye-opening and enriching journey.
In fact, the experience was so powerful that I returned to Pakistan just 10 months later to explore more of the country — and once again, I was blown away. Out of the 100+ countries I’ve visited in my life, Pakistan stands out for one key reason: hospitality. Nowhere else have I ever been welcomed so genuinely, or treated with such kindness — and not once did anyone try to rip me off. That alone speaks volumes.
But today, I’m writing with a heavy heart.
This past week, catastrophic flash floods struck the region where Adnan’s family lives. Entire villages were wiped out in minutes. There has been no government support, and people are left to rebuild their lives from nothing.
Adnan’s brother, Farooq, is doing all he can to help their devastated community — but they need support. Together, we’ve been discussing what’s needed most: food, clothing, and basic household items. Homes have been destroyed, families are displaced, and every small bit helps.
Can you help?
If you can spare even the cost of two cups of coffee, it would go a long way. I know there are always calls for help in the world, and maybe you’re tired of them — but truly, $10 or $20 to us can change lives for these families right now.
I trust Adnan and Farooq completely, and Farooq has promised to send updates and photos showing exactly where the money goes.
Let’s come together to support a community that showed me, and so many others, unmatched kindness. Let’s pay it forward.
Thank you. ❤️
