Flannery Family Liver Transplant Recovery

Hello,
We started on our journey about 3 years ago when my husband Jackson was diagnosed with late stage liver cancer, derived from burn pit exposure while he was deployed with the Army in Iraq. As time went on, his health continually deteriorated, as you would expect with cancer and progressing liver disease. A week ago we got the call we have been waiting on, they had a match and after some question concerning if he was “well enough” to get through the operation, they decided to proceed. The new liver is functioning well, however he now has an infection that is not responding to any of the meds. This has prolonged his stay in the ICU and will have an ongoing ripple effect for his recovery going forward. He has been unable to work for several months now and we have nearly exhausted our savings staying afloat. I am still working, but my income does not cover all of our expenses. We were receiving a stipend every month from the VA, but now that the cancer is gone, the VA has made the decision to cut his benefits by more than half. We are appealing this decision, but it will take months for the review to be decided (estimated 235 days). I am asking for funds to help with the expense of travel and lodging near the hospital as well as to upkeep monthly expenses that are necessary to keep the mortgage paid and utilities on. Unfortunately we do not qualify for any government assistance or other social support services because they all go off previous years taxes where he did work for a few months as he was able - putting our annual income over the limit to receive help. There is no amount too small and if you can’t donate we will take all the good thoughts and prayers you can send our way.
Anyone who knows us, knows we have always opened our hearts and home to anyone in need and in doing so have often opened our wallets as well. We have 4 kids (2 still living at home), one in the Army and another in trade school (cosmetology). We have never asked for help and are slightly embarrassed to do so now. Thank you for your consideration and thoughts.
