I recently adopted Kai at the end of 2021. Previously, he was a stray roaming the streets in Mexico. He was rescued minutes before being put down at the pound in Ensenada. He is a 2.5 year old Belgian Shepherd/Black Norwegian Elkhound.

 

When I first met Kai, we both walked up to each other, I knelt down to pet him, and he just fell into my lap. At that moment, it was a done deal. I took him home.

 

 

There isn't a single person who meets him who doesn't want to take him home with them. He's gentle, quiet, always happy and never fussy. He melts hearts wherever he goes.

 

He's everyone's dream dog! I am so lucky.

 

 

Sadly, after five weeks of diagnostics, I found out he contracted TVT , a transmissible venereal tumor common in Mexican street dogs. The good news is chemotherapy works wonders for this cancer and has a 95% success rate!

 

In the process of finding that out, I learned he had another infection, thankfully treatable with a couple of months of antibiotics. Lastly - and this might be the most heartbreaking - as he was prepped for his first chemo treatment today, they saw he had a few BBs in his chest. From BB guns.

 

Yes. Someone shot Kai with a BB gun.

 

This sweet boy has been through enough.

 

But of course, you'd never know because of how he carries himself. As his doctor said after his first chemo treatment, "he was such a gentleman, very complacent, and just happy to be alive."

 

 

 

Also at the end of last year, I incurred thousands of dollars in medical bills for two of my other fur babies. To have another 4k+ bill so soon after that for Kai now is really unmanageable for me. I have a modest salary as I work for a nonprofit (that is all about saving animals!), so I am asking for help this time.
