Hello Friends,
On January 7th at 10am, my life changed dramatically. I was making breakfast when I noticed that the Santa Ana winds were starting to really pick up. A few minutes later, I smelled smoke coming through the window. I quickly went outside to check. When I got outside, the terror began. I saw smoke coming from the hills above my home. A second later, the fire trucks began to rush past, one after another. Shortly after, I began to see the flames. After that, the sky filled with smoke. Soon, the traffic was bumper to bumper. Sirens sounded from everywhere, fire trucks and cars battling to get around each other. Soon after, people were rushing down my street on foot, some with suitcases and bags of stuff, children and pets being guided down the hill. Everyone had the look of panic on their face. Planes and helicopters soon followed. That’s when I knew it was time to evacuate. From there, the rest was a blurry memory of smoke and fire and people running. I was able to grab a small bag of clothes and escape the neighborhood. From there, the next 48 hours was a sleepless nightmare.
I would later find out that my home and all of my belongings were completely destroyed.
