My name is Pattie Hutton Liggenstoffer.
In July of 2022 my husband and I noticed a leak around our fireplace in 2 rooms. We hired a local contractor to help with repairing the leak. The contractor had an estimate of $80,000 in damages. However, our insurance company only paid enough to cover our deductible. After months of fighting insurance, our insurance company finally agreed to pay for new siding. We however spent that money to get a much needed new roof. The contractor started the new roof but unfortunately made some major mistakes and caused at least $80,000 in more damages. He won't use his contractor insurance because he claims they won't cover water damage that he caused. We had to move out of our house months ago into a rental because the house is not livable. We have also gone through 2 public adjusters to try to fight our insurance company, but have had zero luck. We are having to pay for 2 households and money is getting very tight. Our contractor will hardly work on our house. I have begged him to work countless times. I even had to go 'babysit' him in our house for hours. The weekend I spent most of my time in the house babysitting him, I developed wheezing. My symptoms turned into upper respiratory infection, bronchitis, pneumonia and I wasn't getting any better after countless doctor visits. I have been on a total of 7 antibiotics and several rounds of steroids. After about 6 weeks, I was finally admitted into the hospital. I am finally on the road to recovery. During this time my husband, Buddy, had a seizure that lasted 5+ hours and ended up in the hospital for a few days. He came home and is now back in the hospital because he's still having seizures and until they get his medications straightened out, which could be a long time, he won't be able to work. I haven't been able to work either. He even needs assistance walking.
When we moved to the rental, we moved our son to a new school district, which at first was amazing for him. However now that he's in Middle School, he has been picked on, bullied, and even sexually assaulted at the new school. He has even asked if he can sit in ISS all day so he isn't around many other students. We are very worried about his mental health. He needs to be put back in his old school immediately, but that will be a 2 hour commute everyday. Since my husband won't be able to drive, that is adding extra stress to my already busy schedule taking care of him. We desperately need to be back in our home and our son needs to be in a school where he feels safe.
At this time, we are both unable to work for an unknown amount of time. (I hopefully will be back at work soon though, with help from family staying with my husband.) We can't afford two households and need to get back into our house that is now unlivable. If you know me, then you know how hard this is for me to ask. Will you please help us? I don't know what else to do. I am almost at my breaking point. Thank you and God Bless.
