So often, you hear about people you don’t know who have challenges and struggle with problems. Today, you have an opportunity to help someone who you know and has worked with you, who you have spent time with, or is friend of a friend. Brian and Kathy Burns. Brian and Kathy met at a young age, fell in love, and had four beautiful daughters together. They have struggled financially but happiness has always prevailed. Early in 2017, Brian noticed several enlarging lumps along his neck and was becoming increasingly fatigued. After scans, labs, and multiple other tests, Brian was diagnosed with B cell lymphoma at the age of 44. He was immediately started on chemotherapy and was forced to stop working. During that time, Kathy worked two full-time jobs while taking courses to prepare her for nursing school. Thankfully, Brian finished chemotherapy, returned to work, and Kathy started nursing school. Thoughts of a better life with Kathy finishing her degree and Brian remaining cancer free were finally starting to become a reality. Shortly thereafter, Brian’s only sibling, his sister Alison was diagnosed with stage IV leukemia. Kathy and Brian lost Alison after less than a year. She was only 39 years old. The family was devastated but remained hopeful that Brian would stay in remission. Sadly, Brian noticed an enlarging lump in his abdomen a few months later. The biopsy in October, 2019 revealed that his cancer had returned. In December 2019, Brian again started chemotherapy and is scheduled for a bone marrow transplant later this year. Brian is again out of work and spending a great deal of time in Jefferson hospital. Kathy continues to work full-time while enrolled in a full-time nursing program at Roxborough hospital while continuing to care for their four daughters. Brian is scheduled to be admitted for 4 plus weeks in the very near future. The bills have begun to pile up. The aim of this fund is to hopefully allow Kathy and the four girls to pay their bills until Brian recovers and can hopefully one day return to work. Whether you do or do not know the story and how well you know either of them does not matter as much as the difference that you can make by contributing funds to help them! Please, be generous and donate what you can as every dollar makes a difference.
