Help Sean Recover After a Devastating Stroke
On February 13th, Sean suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke in his brainstem. He was airlifted to Pittsburgh where doctors told us the situation was extremely serious and could be fatal.
Sean spent time in the ICU on a ventilator and developed pneumonia while fighting for his life. Doctors later discovered that long-term untreated high blood pressure had also caused several smaller ischemic strokes.
After weeks of critical care, Sean began improving enough to be transferred to a rehabilitation facility. Sadly, just three days later he suffered another stroke affecting the opposite side of his brain.
Sean now has extremely limited movement and is currently unable to speak. He is on a feeding tube because swallowing has been difficult. Although he is awake and aware, he cannot communicate with us yet.
Sean is once again back in rehabilitation after another ICU stay and is expected to remain there for at least a month before we can hopefully transfer him closer to home.
Our family had recently moved to help care for Sean’s elderly mother, who is disabled from her own stroke and a recent broken hip. Sean had been helping care for her, but now that responsibility has fallen entirely on me while Sean fights through recovery.
Sean is currently about an hour and a half away in Pittsburgh. Being present with him during this time is incredibly important — not only to support him emotionally, but also to advocate for him since he cannot communicate with medical staff.
Unfortunately, travel and lodging costs are adding up quickly. We do not currently have a car, so transportation requires train tickets, rides, and Uber. I was able to secure a discounted hotel near the hospital, but it still costs money each night.
Because Sean’s mother is on a limited income and I am caring for her while trying to stay close to Sean, working right now is not possible.
We are asking for help to cover:
• Hotel stays near the rehab facility
• Train tickets and transportation to Pittsburgh
• Uber rides and travel expenses
• Future care and transportation once Sean is closer to home
Having family present during recovery can make a tremendous difference, and we want to make sure Sean does not have to face this difficult journey alone.
Any donation, no matter the amount, will help us stay close to Sean and support him through recovery.
Thank you so much for your kindness, prayers, and support.
