My name is David Alexander(above in the yellow), Josh Alexander is my 15 year old younger brother.  He was born with spina bifida. Josh has undergone many surgeries in his short lifetime, the majority of them being shunt repairs. He has had 4 of them in the past, and they have all gone smoothly. However, his most recent surgery did not go so smoothly.

On August 3rd, he underwent surgery and my parents were given very unsettling information. They were told that the surgery itself was a success, but Josh was having trouble waking up. After the surgery, while they were taking him off of the anesthesia he lacked oxygen at some point. This caused his blood pressure to rise and he suffered two strokes in the brain stem.

My brother who was once fully functional (with the exception of walking) now has been confined to a hospital bed for the past 9 weeks and 2 days. During this time, he has undergone three surguries. He is now undergoing rehab at Kennedy Krieger Institute and is making steady progress. It is unknown at this point whether or not he will make a 100% full recovery, but when he comes home many changes will need to be made.
Nurses will have to be present for a little while after he comes home since it will be such a change to my family. They will have to teach us how to properly care for him with all the changes and new needs that he will have.

The money that will be raised will be very helpful for my family. My mother has not left my brother's side during this 9 week period for more than a night. Since all of this began, my father has not been able to work a full work day, and as I said, my mother hasn't left Josh's side which means she has not been working at all. With the medical bills piling up, and my parents not working, it will be very hard to pay the medical bills and also support my grandmother who lives at my house, my 2 younger brothers and sister, and myself.
