Hi my name is Myrna and I need your help, not for me but for my dear, sweet friend Meredith. Meredith had been feeling extremely tired and decided to see her doctor on June 13, 2022. First thought to be mono, the diagnosis quickly changed when the blood tests came back the next day.....Acute Myloid Luekemia! She was admitted to Medical City Dallas hospital on Wednesday, had a bone marrow biopsy (the first of many to come) on Thursday and started chemotherapy on Friday. AML is a rapid, progressive cancer of the blood and bone marrow. AML chemo treatments need constant monitoring which requires hospitalization for 3-5 weeks per round, short rest periods followed by intermittent shorter treatments of 3-5 days before continuing on with next longer hospital stay again. In between treatments, during her "rest" phase, she has to travel about 45 minutes into Dallas 2-3 times a week for labs that often includes blood transfusions and IV fluids. The ultimate goal is a bone marrow transplant and they have found a donor match!!! As of now, she will enter the hospital on December 12th and transplant day is scheduled for December 22nd! Once she is released from the hospital, she will need constant home monitoring for at least the next 90 days. The hospital bills alone have easily topped 6 figures.
Meredith is a devoted mother to Payton, loving wife to Eddy and a loyal friend to so many. She has been a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines for 17 years and hopes to return one day when her health permits. If you know Meredith, you know she is full of life and would do anything to help her friends and family as well as complete strangers. Her mother courageously fought breast cancer for 12 years before losing that battle when Meredith was 17 years old. With the loss of income, her short term disability running out in December and the staggering hospital and doctor bills, she needs our help. I know the holiday season finds many of us a little short on funds but it is also a time of compassion and renewed faith and hope. I hope you can find it in your heart, as well as your wallet, to help.
Thank you.
