My name is Hannah & I am starting this fundraiser for my friend Fiyori to develop her epoxy resin art business.

Recent civil war and continued political unrest have devastated the Tigray region of Ethiopia. Many friends, family members, and strangers supported my cause when I raised funds in 2020 to help my host family in Mekele, Tigray survive during that time — and your generosity made an enormous difference.

Now, I am back with another fundraiser, but this time it's about rebuilding.

One of the daughters of my host family, Fiyori, has started a small business creating beautiful epoxy resin Ethiopian art pieces. After working out of her home for some time, she is now ready to take the next step by opening a workspace and storefront in Kedemay Weyane Market in Mekele.

Because of the war, the economy in Tigray remains extremely difficult. As Fiyori told me, “we can eat, but there is no development.” Opportunities for young people to grow and build something lasting are scarce. Despite these challenges, she is has found the determination to create a business that supports her family and demonstrates the beauty of her resilient culture.

To secure the workspace for her business, Fiyori needs about $1,250 to cover six months of rent. This will give her the foundation she needs to expand production, display her artwork, and reach more customers.

I lived with Fiyori and her family in Mekele for five years (2012–2017). They treated me as one of their own family members, with so much kindness, understanding, and generosity. Supporting Fiyori in her mission to create a sustainable income stream feels like a way to honor the bond we share. If I could provide the entire amount for her, I would!
