Fix My Face!
Hi, my name is Zach. I’m 18 and was born with a complete, unilateral cleft lip and palate. That means a big part of my upper lip and jaw and the left side of the roof of my mouth were not there at birth. I’ve had 13 surgeries so far, and after I graduate in June I’ll start a new series of procedures. This time I’ll have my upper jaw broken and moved forward. I’ll wear a “halo” screwed into my skull which encircles my face and connects with wires coming out of my mouth, to pull my jaw forward as it heals. A few weeks later, I’ll have permanent plates put into my jaw, and after that I’ll need another bone graft from my hip to jaw and some other stuff, including false teeth.
I plan to go to college this fall, and all these surgeries mean my mom and I will have to take time off from work and have various expenses that will be hard to meet. One expense is all the protein drinks I’ll need to squirt into my cheeks with a syringe for many weeks. Another is the gas to go to the doc’s every couple days which is nearly an hour away. The list is long and the money is not available to cover it all. Back to me going to college – Because I’m going to miss a big chunk of work, I will lose a big chunk of college money. Less work minus big expenses minus college tuition equals…You get the picture.
One of my awesome sisters, with lots of social savvy and the nerve to ask for help for my mom and I, has set up this account. We would appreciate any help you can give. We need lots of prayer (My mom and I are stressed out as you can imagine) and around $3,000. After this surgery, I’ll be able to speak, breathe and eat better, and I may even look better!
