My Brother-in-Law, Brian Gainey, was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma (sinus tumor). This tumor typically found in the sinus cavity. Brian’s tumor is approximately 3-inches long and has caused a lot of pressure on his sinuses and left eye.
Brian’s journey began on December 14, 2016 when he did not return from work that Wednesday morning. Brian was found in a state of confusion, which was thought to have been caused by an ongoing sinus infection. After some convincing from his wife (my sister, Melicia Gainey) who was in Australia at the time for a business trip, we got Brian to Riverside Hospital. There CT scan revealed a tumor on his frontal lobe.
Flash forward to Friday, December 16th. Melicia is on her way back to Ohio and Brian goes in for a biopsy through his left nostril. Before the biopsy results come back, Riverside transfers primary care to the James Cancer Hospital at OSU for possible surgery options. This is where Melicia and Brian first heard the awful word “cancer.” The tumor appears to have formed in his sinus cavity and grown.
The game plan changed again. Now the treatment plan will include chemotherapy (three drug combo) with radiation to follow. The team will reassess surgery options at a later date. The doctors are very optimistic on the chemo treatment option.
Brian began his first round of chemo on Christmas Eve and took a total of four days to infuse. Brian, Melicia and their two kids (McKinley and Arabelle) spent Christmas day together at the hospital in their matching sock-monkey pajamas. All of the hospital staff applauded their good nature given the circumstances. Once Brian is able to get around freely and eating regularly, he will be able to return home. Right now we would love to see him home before the New Years.
Brian has a long journey ahead of him but he will be meet with much love from friends and family. Your generosity will be used to help with the medial co-pays and deductibles as they take this next step in life.
This is what the Lord says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you. – 2 KINGS 20:5
